Happy Holidays! It’s Party Time!

It’s time for the Florida Glass Dragons Holiday Party, December 8 at Glenda Long’s place in St. Cloud! We have tons of fun stuff planned!

Date: December 8th 2018
Place: 2374 Tyson Road
           St. Cloud, FL
Time: 11:00 a.m. to 3 p.m

For starters, the Florida Glass Dragons are going to be supplying glaskolbens to everyone to try, no purchase necessary, as our gift to you this year! You will get to make at least 3 and take them home with you. Maybe more depending on turn out and the amount of glaskolbens we have. We are looking for some donations of 90 COE frit for this:) To those not familiar with these they are blown ornaments and don’t be scared…they are beginner friendly!

We are also going to do a White Elephant Exchange! Anyone who wants to participate needs to bring a wrapped gift ( under $25) The more humorous the gift the better…This is for entertainment only…😊 It is tons of fun and the more that participate the better! It is also called Yankee Swap, Dirty Santa…  White Elephant Gift Exchange

Diane Wingard is donating a turkey, so we are going to have a feast! Bring fixins that go with a holiday dinner!

Chris McElroy and Margie Chan were thinking of doing a tree that everyone could donate an ornament to and we can raffle it off to the winner:) Bring an ornament…it doesn’t have to be glass. Prizes will be given for donating:) I will be bringing some cosmetics, bath and body from my shop as well for the prizes..

Hope to see everyone there:) Should be a fantastic meeting!

June 9 – Learn To Melt Glass At The St. Lucie County Rock and Gem Club

It’s once again time for the monthly meeting of The Florida Glass Dragons. We have another exciting meeting planned that you won’t want to miss!

Florida Glass Dragons & St. Lucie County Rock and Gem Club are co hosting a meeting!

We will be demoing glass bead making and making metal bead caps! For the tiny sum of $5. You can sit down and make a bunch of beadcaps to go on your beads! Bring inorganic material to roll in the metal presses to make designs on the metal. A leaf will work if it is dead ( dry) so think outside of the box:)…lace, material, dead leaves and other flora. It does have to be small enough to roll through the press….use your imagination:)

Dont miss this opportunity as all meetings will not have the ability to torch present!

Do you know someone who has expressed an interest in lampworking, but not been able to try? Or, perhaps, is just getting started but hasn’t had much exposure to other artists? Or…well established and just want to meet and hang out with other glassy folks for the day? Well, bring them along! Hosted by Joe David at SLC Rock and Gem club, this event is open to everyone, members and non-members! The studio features several torches, so everyone will have an opportunity to try their hand, if they so choose. We’ll have some demos, as well as a question and answer session. So help us spread the word! We can’t wait to see you there!

Location: St. Lucie County Rock & Gem Club
6901 Heritage Dr
Port St. Lucie, FL 34952
Time: 11:00AM – 3:00PM
Food Suggestions: Finger Foods. Bring something
to share with the group.

The mission of the Florida Glass Dragons is to promote the diverse art of glass beadmaking and other glass working techniques; to be socially responsible through support of worthy causes; to provide a nurturing environment to all members; and foremost, to have a good time together through our common passion for glass.

As always, you are encouraged you to bring your art work for show and tell and don’t forget your donations for Beads of Courage!

The Dragons will be bringing in teachers this year for members and non member classes. If you join the group you get reduced tuition:)

The SLC rock and gem club offers tons of reasonably priced classes and all sorts of metal and gem equipment! You can learn to do silversmithing, gemstone faceting, gem cabochon making, bronze clay classes, vaccum casting, fused glass, metal enamel, and on and on. The facitlity has 6 minor torches for glass and tons and tons of equipment for metal working and gem working. The facility is air conditioned:)

Photos From Saturday’s Meeting

We had such a great time at the March meeting, this past Saturday! The subject was etching and we covered chemical etching, 2 types of manual engraving and sand blasting. Thank you so much, Glenda and Margie, for hosting and demonstrating!

Here are a few photos from the meeting:
